Our story
90 seconds: the hotel from the air, the lounge and bar, breakfast, our rooms and an evening event.
The Fig Tree began as a Victorian guesthouse. It closed its doors in 2019, and for a while the house stood quiet. Then two Scottish sisters, Wendy Sneddon and Karen Cormack, brought it back to life as a modern, peaceful boutique hotel.
We set out to keep the character of the old house and add the comfort people expect today. The result is calm, light rooms, generous spaces and genuine hospitality. Our house line is simple: arrive as guests, leave as friends. In practice that means we remember your name, we learn how you take your tea, and we are here when you need us and out of the way when you do not.
The beach is about a ten-minute walk, and Shanklin Old Village is on the doorstep. We welcome couples on short breaks, walkers and heritage lovers, people who need step-free access, owners of small dogs, and groups taking the whole hotel for a celebration or a team retreat. Our island and our community
