What makes a boutique room feel calm?

When you choose to stay at The Fig Tree, you are not just booking a room. You are choosing a place designed around calm, comfort and connection. We are an owner-run hotel in a seaside town, a peaceful stay for couples and guests who want stillness, privacy and a well-designed room.

How are the rooms designed?

Our rooms are designed with tranquillity in mind. Soft colours and inviting layouts work together to create spaces that feel warm, grounded and restful.

Every room has a double wardrobe and dressing table, tea and coffee facilities with a cool drawer, a smart TV, high-speed Wi-Fi, a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, a safe and USB sockets. The en-suite wet room has a heated towel rail and complimentary toiletries. Hypoallergenic bedding is available on request.

Which room should you choose?

• Bijou Double: a small double at the rear of the hotel, ideal for one and suitable for two.
• Standard Double: a comfortable double bed for two.
• Executive: a king-size bed for two.
• Suite with Balcony: sea-facing, with a super king bed that can be split into twins, double doors to a private balcony with seating, and a Nespresso machine.
• Bridal / Honeymoon Suite with Balcony: a built-in dressing area with full-length mirrors, soft lighting and stools, made for getting ready together before a wedding, plus a balcony.

For guests who want a view, the suites face the sea. Not every room has a sea view, so tell us what matters to you when you book. Selected suites take a fold-up bed for a child, so they can sleep up to three. Travel cots and a baby bath are available on request.

Is The Fig Tree a good place for couples?

We welcome all kinds of guests, but the atmosphere has been shaped to suit couples looking for time to reconnect. Our lounge bar opens onto a terrace through bifold doors, and the pace is unhurried. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a seaside break, or simply need space to be together, the setting encourages conversation and calm.

What is breakfast like?

Morning routines can be unhurried. Breakfast is included in every rate and served from 8am to 10am. Choose cooked full English options or a self-service continental breakfast. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy needs are catered for with advance notice.

We do not serve lunch or dinner to individual guests, but Shanklin Old Village and the seafront have plenty of restaurants, and reception is happy to recommend one. Afterwards the lounge bar has a happy hour every day from 5pm to 7pm with 20% off all drinks, and coffee and cake Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm.

Why is Shanklin a good place for a couples break?

Shanklin offers a blend of charm and calm. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, and Shanklin Chine and Shanklin Old Village are within walking distance. Morning walks along the shore, gentle afternoon adventures and quiet evenings become the rhythm of your stay.
