Tasting the Island: Our Favourite Local Producers at The Fig Tree Shanklin
Published 10 December 2025 · Updated 18 October 2026

The Fig Tree supports Isle of Wight producers and sources ingredients locally, working with small island suppliers. You taste that in the breakfast we serve each morning, in afternoon tea and in the coffee and cake we offer on weekdays. Here is how it works and where to eat beyond the hotel.
What does supporting local producers mean for us?
Dining is about more than food. It is about atmosphere, connection and a sense of place. Our approach at The Fig Tree, Shanklin, is built around one simple idea: let the island speak through its flavours.
The Isle of Wight has an exceptional local produce scene, and we are proud to make it part of how we run the hotel. We support Isle of Wight producers, source ingredients locally and work with small island suppliers who share our care for quality, sustainability and seasonality.
Our commitment to sourcing nearby is not only about flavour. It is about supporting the local community, reducing our environmental footprint and keeping authenticity at the heart of what we serve. Our wider approach also includes low-impact cleaning products and energy-efficient heating. You can read more on our about us page.
What can you eat at The Fig Tree?
We do not serve lunch or dinner to individual guests. What we do serve, we try to do well.
Breakfast. Breakfast is included in every rate and served from 8am to 10am. Choose cooked full English options or a self-service continental breakfast. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergy needs are catered for with advance notice, so tell us when you book. Our breakfast and bar page has the details.
Coffee and cake. Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, no booking needed.
Afternoon tea. Few experiences are as timeless as afternoon tea on the Isle of Wight. We serve it every day with 24 hours' notice. Expect finger sandwiches, pastries, cake, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves, and a selection of speciality teas. It is £25 per person, or £30 per person with prosecco. See our afternoon tea page, or book by phone, email or chat.
Afternoon tea works as a pause in the flow of the day, shared between friends or enjoyed quietly as a couple.
Where can you relax with a drink?
Our lounge bar has bifold doors that open onto the outdoor terrace, which is a pleasant place for a coffee or a drink in the sun. Happy hour runs every day from 5pm to 7pm, with 20% off all drinks. There is an open mic night every Monday from 7pm.
Where should you eat in Shanklin?
Shanklin Old Village and the seafront have plenty of restaurants, and reception is happy to recommend somewhere to suit your plans. If you tell us what you enjoy, we can point you to the right table. For ideas on how to fill your days, see our things to do in Shanklin guide and the post on the best things to do in Shanklin.
What about food for groups and events?
For groups, catering is arranged with you. Options include a cold or hot buffet, afternoon tea, charcuterie and cheese boards, or a sit-down meal. See our events page for what is on.
