What happens every week?

Some things happen on the same days all year round, and winter is the season when you notice them most. After a walk along the front in cold air, a warm bar with a friendly crowd is exactly what you want.

• Open mic night, every Monday from 7pm. Musicians, singers and anyone who fancies a go are welcome, and so is anyone who would simply like to listen.
• Happy hour, every day from 5pm to 7pm. 20% off all drinks in the lounge bar.
• Coffee and cake, Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm. No booking needed. All are welcome, whether you are staying with us or just passing.

Why spend a winter weekend in Shanklin?

Winter on the Isle of Wight is quiet in the best way. The beaches are empty, the light on the water is clear, and there is no queue for anything. It is a good time for a spontaneous escape, a gentle weekend away for two, or a few days of fresh air and rest.

A winter day at The Fig Tree can be as busy or as slow as you like. Breakfast is included in every rate and is served from 8am to 10am, with cooked full English options or a self-service continental breakfast. Is there an afternoon tea in winter?

Yes, every day, with 24 hours' notice. You get finger sandwiches, pastries, cake, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves, and a selection of speciality teas. It costs £25 per person, or £30 per person with prosecco. Book by phone, email or chat. It is a favourite on a grey afternoon, and it makes a good treat to share. Where can I eat in the evening?

We serve breakfast but not lunch or dinner to individual guests. Shanklin Old Village and the seafront have plenty of restaurants, and reception is happy to recommend one. Many guests come back to the bar afterwards for a drink in the lounge bar, where bifold doors open onto our outdoor terrace.

How do I make it a proper getaway?
