Stop for a homemade scone at one of the local cafés, then head down to the sandy beach. It may be too cool for sunbathing, but it is a lovely spot for a refreshing coastal walk. If you love scenic walks, the Shanklin to Ventnor coastal path is a must. It takes you through woodland, clifftops and charming coastal scenery, with some of the best views on the island. Visit Shanklin Chine

Shanklin Chine, the island's oldest woodland gorge, is within walking distance of the hotel. It is a landscape of waterfalls, lush greenery and winding walkways, and a photographer's favourite. It is usually seasonal, so check its opening dates before you go.

Spring evenings can still be cool, and cosy pubs with open fires and hearty local dishes are part of the appeal. In the Old Village, The Crab Inn is a historic thatched pub, and The Steamer Inn sits on the seafront with sea views. Reception is happy to recommend somewhere for dinner, because we do not serve lunch or dinner to individual guests.
